Uber Acquires Danish Taxi Firm Dantaxi

Ride-hailing giant Uber has revealed its purchase of Denmark's largest taxi company, Dantaxi, formerly owned by investment company Triton in 2018.

The deal grants Uber access to 3,500 taxi drivers across 75 of Denmark's 98 municipalities, as per news wire Ritzau's reports. Dantaxi, a company that describes itself as Denmark's largest taxi company, will continue operations as usual while integrating its drivers into the Uber platform.

Uber's CEO Carsten Aastrup of Dantaxi expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, calling it an exciting new chapter for the Danish company. The deal follows Uber's recent return to the Danish market this year, after departing in 2017 due to changes in taxi regulations.

The agreement with Dantaxi resembles Uber's current arrangement with Drivr, which allows Uber to operate in Copenhagen while Drivr provides drivers and cars ordered through the platform. The similar structure will now apply across the country, expanding Uber's reach beyond the capital.

While the financial cost of the buyout remains undisclosed, the acquisition aims to improve vehicle match rates and estimated times of arrival for consumers, thereby strengthening Uber's position as a leading mobility platform in the region. However, Uber's stock has experienced fluctuations due to competition from Tesla's robotaxi launch. Despite this, analysts remain optimistic about Uber's long-term growth prospects, crediting strategic acquisitions and advancements in autonomous vehicles as key drivers.
