UAE Expands Rail Baltica Corridor for Faster Trade
Key stakeholders, including the management teams of Rail Baltica supply organizations, Baltic States' ministries, industrial partners, and the joint venture COBELEC Rail Baltica, have agreed to expand the corridor network. The contract was signed on September 15, 2025, in Vilnius. This expansion aims to introduce innovative services and competitive advantages through advanced technologies.
The expanded corridor network will include additional train stations, with final customs formalities completed at the destination. Advanced end-to-end logistics services will also be delivered. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of Etihad Rail, sees this expansion as a way to reinforce the UAE's position as a global trade and investment gateway, enhancing efficiency and safety.
Pilot operations for the customs corridor are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. Etihad Rail is working closely with relevant authorities and customers to formalise cooperation frameworks and establish performance monitoring mechanisms. The 'Bonded Rail Corridor' will reduce customs clearance times, facilitating efficient entry and exit through coordinated pre-inquiry procedures. A new rail corridor will enable seamless movement of goods between Khalifa Port, Fujairah Terminals, and their adjacent free zones. Goods transported via Etihad Rail trains will enjoy priority clearance within customs systems.
The expansion of the corridor network, with additional train stations and innovative services, is expected to enhance the UAE's trade and investment position. Pilot operations for the customs corridor will begin later this year, with streamlined customs procedures and priority clearance for goods transported by Etihad Rail.
