Zhambyl Region Plans to Establish 2 Gigawatt Wind Energy Facilities

Two massive wind power stations, each with a capacity of 2 Gigawatts (GW), are set to be constructed in the Zhambyl Region.

Let's talk about some big-ass wind farms, y'all!

Hold onto your hats, as the Zhambyl Region in Kazakhstan is planning to construct two colossal wind power plants, with a combined capacity of a whopping 2 GIGAWATTS! That's enough juice to power a city with a population larger than Austin, Texas. It's all thanks to a meeting led by Governor Yerbol Karashukeyev, so kudos to him.

Here's a map to help you visualize this bad boy, designed by the brilliant folks at The Astana Times (check it out in all its glory by clicking the photo credit).

The Zhambyl Region is already on a roll when it comes to energy efficiency and conservation, and it's packing a solid punch with 22 renewable energy sources! These include six hydroelectric, ten wind, and six solar power plants, taking the region's total capacity to a respectable 571.3 MEGAWATTS.

Fast forward a few years, and we've got the Masdar company from the United Arab Emirates stepping up to the plate. They're prepping to build a 1 GIGAWATT wind power plant in the Sarysu and Talas districts, at an estimated cost of around $1.4 BILLION. Construction will commence in 2026 and the plant is scheduled to go live in 2029. Details about potential collaborations with other companies or the exact launch timeline are a bit sketchy, but that's what we've got so far.

In the same region, Total Eren has their eyes on the Moiynkum district, planning to invest a staggering $1.9 BILLION in a second 1 GIGAWATT wind project. They've already secured 52,000 hectares of land and construction is slated to kick off in 2028.

Last year, the Shokpar wind power plant in the Sarysu district went live with a capacity of 100 MW. Additionally, the AEC ASA solar power plant in the Zhambyl district expanded its capacity by an extra 20 MW. Progress, y'all!

So, keep an eye on that corner of Kazakhstan, because some major things are brewing. If you're thirsty for more info, might wanna dig up some more detailed sources to find out more about any potential collaborations or exact launch timelines. Cheers!
