In a significant step towards environmental and climate protection, the city of Wolfsburg has introduced a fleet of modern electric buses to its public transport network. The electric buses, specifically MAN Lion's City 18E, were handed over at Wolfsburger Verkehrs-GmbH (WVG) in Borsingstraße.

The introduction of these eco-friendly buses is aimed at improving the environmental balance of public passenger transport in the Wolfsburg region. Each bus is equipped with modern assistance systems, including reversing cameras, tire pressure control, radar sensors, and blind spot assistants. Radar sensors on the A-pillar visually warn bus drivers about other road users in the 'blind spot', while the blind spot assistant supports the drivers during turning and lane changing.

The daily use of these electric buses in the Wolfsburg line network does not require intermediate charging, thanks to their eight powerful battery packs on the roof. These provide a guaranteed range of 210 kilometers with fully charged batteries.

The decision to acquire these electric buses is part of a broader commitment to electrification, as evidenced by the Supervisory Board of WVG's decision to acquire battery-electric vehicles, with 40% funding support from the state of Lower Saxony. From 2026, WVG plans to annually acquire six more E-buses to further strengthen local public transport in the WVG fleet.

The handover of these 12 electric buses was conducted in partnership with MAN Truck & Bus SE, a technology partner of WVG. The buses offer seating for 55 passengers and standing room for 65, with a total capacity of 120 passengers.

Wolfsburg's commitment to electrification is closely associated with Volkswagen, a major automotive player known for advancing electric mobility and connected vehicle technologies in the region. AVL, another prominent automotive technology company, is also dedicated to climate-neutral mobility and advanced vehicle testing, which could be relevant in the context of Wolfsburg’s transport electrification indirectly.

For the latest updates on the electrification of Wolfsburg's public transport fleet, including information about the acquisition of electric articulated buses or the integration of modern safety features, it is recommended to check the official announcements from Wolfsburg public transport or city administration, or Volkswagen Group’s local infrastructure projects.
