Top 3 "Good" Private Retirement Insurance Policies Outshine Allianz, Offering Higher Guaranteed Pensions and Lower Costs!

Three pension plans deemed satisfactory

Saving for retirement is crucial, but selecting the best investment for those savings can be challenging. Many opt for private pension insurances with a guaranteed interest rate on savings contributions, promising a fixed rate and a lifetime pension. But with costs and a limited return, are these investments worth it?

Stiftung Warentest, a reputable consumer center, scrutinized 14 tariffs of classic private pension insurance policies from popular providers like Allianz, Europa, and Württembergische. They examined factors such as the return, insurer's costs, contract flexibility, and transparency.

Most Policies Fall Short, But Three Brilliantly Outshine the Rest

After calculating pensions based on a hypothetical customer paying €200 per month for 30 years (totaling €72,000) and collecting the pension at age 67, Stiftung Warentest found that the majority of policies were only "satisfactory." The main reason for their mediocre performance was high costs. Expensive insurers cannot guarantee a high pension.

However, three policies rose above the rest, earning the "good" rating – the envy of the industry:

  1. Europa E-RCP – Market leader Europa's stunning offering guarantees a monthly pension of approximately 218 euros.
  2. Hannoversche Bausteinrente R4 – With an impressive guaranteed amount of about 111% of the paid sum, or €79,966, and a monthly pension of 240 euros, this policy placed second due to lower flexibility and transparency.
  3. LV 1871 RT1 – Recognized for reasonable costs and solid guarantees, LV 1871 RT1 rounds out the top three.

Allianz Fails to Impress: Europa Tariff Leads the Pack

Allianz's PrivatRente Perspektive underperformed in the test, earning only a "satisfactory" or worse rating overall. It failed to offer a payout that matched the total contributions paid in the hypothetical model case, which was the lowest guaranteed capital payment among all providers tested.

Costs play a significant role in the monthly pension paid out. Europa’s tariff had the lowest costs among the top tariffs, positively impacting the monthly pension for the customer. Lower costs mean a higher payout for the customer. In contrast, Allianz's tariff had higher costs and relatively poor guaranteed returns compared to the best tariffs tested.

In summary, the top three "good" rated classic private pension insurance policies – Europa E-RCP, Hannoversche Bausteinrente R4, and LV 1871 RT1 – demonstrate superior guaranteed payouts and lower costs compared to the Allianz market leader offer, emphasizing the importance of comparing tariffs rather than relying on popular brands.
