Thailand Hikes Airport Fees for Tech-Equipped Airports
Thailand's Department of Airports has hiked passenger service charges at six regional airports. The new fees, effective Wednesday, apply to both domestic and international news users of the department's airports equipped with new passenger processing technologies. The affected airports include Krabi, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Phitsanulok. The fee for international news users has risen to 425 baht per person, with domestic news users now paying 75 baht per person. Both groups will pay an additional 25 baht per person in airport tax. The increased fee is already included in the ticket price under 'fees and taxes' for domestic flights. The new charges apply only to department-operated airports with advanced technologies such as e-gates, biometric facial recognition systems, and advanced self-check-in kiosks. The increased fees aim to cover operational costs of the new technologies. News users are advised to check updated charges before their journey.
