Tesla's Cybercab Makes Its European Debut at Berlin's Mall

Tesla's futuristic Cybercab, a two-door electric vehicle designed for two passengers, is now on display at the Mall of Berlin near Potsdamer Platz. The Cybercab, which has been the subject of much anticipation, is currently on show from November 22 to December 8, 2023.

The Cybercab, which has been supervised since April, is set to make significantly fewer mistakes than human drivers and aims to obtain a license for unsupervised driving. The chances of this happening in the US have improved with the election victory of President Trump, whom Tesla CEO Elon Musk has heavily supported. However, it remains unclear whether the price includes the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles, which President Trump is reportedly planning to abolish next January.

The Cybercab, unlike traditional vehicles, does not have pedals for braking and accelerating, a steering wheel, or any control elements. Instead, its doors are expected to open automatically when it arrives at passengers and when their destination is reached. The trunk of the Cybercab is large enough to fit two suitcases plus two carry-on bags, and bicycles can potentially fit as well. However, Tesla's description of the trunk as "huge" appears smaller and narrower than the Model Y in the prototype.

The only visible controls in the prototype were two buttons in the center console that appeared to be non-functional. The seats in the Cybercab resemble flat armchairs and could not be adjusted or moved in the Berlin prototype due to the lack of buttons.

Spontaneous visitors can also register on-site to view the Cybercab, and a website has been set up for prior registration. The Cybercab was exhibited in the city of Munich, Germany, from November 22 to December 8, 2022. In the event in Los Angeles, short Robotaxi rides were offered to guests.

Regulatory shortcuts may be more difficult to achieve in Europe, which could mean that the Cybercab, after Tesla has already sent the Cybertruck on tour, remains an electric car for marketing purposes in Europe for some time after its US launch.

Visitors to the Mall of Berlin have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of this gold-plated Robotaxi, which commands full attention in the cleared Cybercab presentation area. The Cybercab, with its promise of autonomous driving and a price tag under $25,000, is poised to revolutionise the electric vehicle industry.
