Tank brand under GWM introduces refreshed Tank 500 model
Great Wall Motor's personalized brand, Tank, has unveiled the updated Tank 500, an SUV that boasts a substantial redesign with advanced technology, premium dimensions, and powerful hybrid powertrains. Here are the key features and specifications of the updated Tank 500.
Dimensions
The updated Tank 500 measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height. It also has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, an approach angle of 29°, a departure angle of 24°, and a ground clearance of 210 mm. The SUV is equipped with a luxurious interior, offering 5 seats with amenities such as ventilated, heated, and massage-compatible seats.
Powertrains
The main powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid system with a combined output around 300 kW (400 hp). The Hi4-T variant uses a 185 kW engine and a 120 kW electric motor. The battery capacity is a 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. The Hi4-Z variant, focused on family use, offers a pure electric driving range of up to 201 km with dual electric motors and a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, producing up to 645 kW (865 hp) system output. Charging time from 30% to 80% SOC takes just 15 minutes. A 3.0L twin-turbo V6 mild hybrid powertrain is also available in the Black Edition version with a 48V system for enhanced performance.
Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)
The updated Tank 500 is equipped with a sophisticated Coffee Pilot Ultra driving assistance system. This system features a Hesai ATX lidar sensor mounted on the roof and additional cameras on the sides and rear spoiler. With 27 smart sensors, the Tank 500 offers high-speed and urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) capabilities, smart parking, traffic jam assist, intelligent cruise assist, lane keeping, automatic emergency braking, and more.
Exterior and Interior Updates
The updated Tank 500 sports a redesigned grille with vertical stacked chrome bars and an illuminated "Tank" logo. New color options include Dunhuang Green, with existing Kunlun Gold, Pamir Silver, and Mount Everest White. The rear logo has been updated to "GWM TANK" with the GWM logo added near the spare tire. The interior features a tech-rich cabin with a ceiling-mounted 17.3-inch 3K touchscreen supporting voice, gesture, touch, and remote controls for rear passengers.
Suspension and Chassis
The non-loadbearing body structure of the updated Tank 500 is complemented by a double wishbone front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension, ensuring better off-road capability and ride comfort.
In conclusion, the updated Tank 500 combines rugged off-road capability with modern luxury, a strong plug-in hybrid powertrain, and a next-generation lidar-based driver assistance system, making it a competitive premium SUV in its segment. Pre-sales for the updated Tank 500 will begin next month, and the expected launch is later this quarter.
