Sovereign Housing Leads UK's Net Zero Push With £9m Retrofit Plan

Sovereign Housing Association, one of Britain's largest social housing providers, is leading the way in upgrading homes to make them warmer, more energy-efficient, and cheaper to run. The association aims to retrofit all 61,000 homes and achieve net zero by 2050.

Each property will receive a 'passport' outlining the retrofit measures needed to reach net zero. These measures include wall insulation, heat pumps, battery storage, solar panels, and 'smart' home controls. The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) has awarded Sovereign £9m for retrofitting over 1,000 homes. This funding is part of the £3.8bn SHDF commitment to improve energy performance of social rented properties over 10 years. The goal is to deliver warm, energy-efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions and fuel bills, tackle fuel poverty, and support green job growth.

Sovereign's SHDF proposals align with their long-term goal of decarbonising and retrofitting all homes. The £9m funding from SHDF is a significant step towards achieving this goal, with the potential to improve living conditions for thousands of tenants and contribute to the UK's net zero targets.
