PasTeG: A Reinvigorated Learning Program Amidst Pandemic

The revival of the PasTeG program has been necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In pre-pandemic times, this program was self-sustaining, but its reintroduction faced initial hurdles.

Two main aspects necessitated readjustment. First, students—10th graders from various secondary schools in the Rhein district—required reacquainting with the concept. Second, the companies and research institutions hosting "PasTeG" groups needed re-motivation.

According to Eberhard Uhlig, chairman of the sponsoring association, these entities should invest some effort. On Saturday afternoons, they must provide personnel to support students and offer them fascinating experimental and working opportunities.

For instance, this year, students at "Currenta" produced aspirin in various ways (small photo above), and at "West-Energy," they climbed power poles.

The association is currently trying to establish a teacher network within the Rhein district schools to identify the most promising students for PasTeG.

Course 20 kickstarts in January. A public information event will take place on October 30th at 7 pm in the Pascal-Gymnasium cafeteria. An information video conference is scheduled for November 7th at 6 pm, accessible via pasteg.de (registration required). Registrations for the course can be made on the same page until December 1st.

It's worth knowing that the PasTeG course spans two years and takes place during school hours on Saturdays (every other week). Approximately 20 to 30 participants are guided over this period to industrial and research facilities.

The fees amount to 60 euros per month (for eleven months, excluding summer break). Scholarships may also be awarded.

Upon completion, a certificate issued by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce can be obtained, which can serve as an additional Abitur subject to improve the numerus clausus.

Additionally, the fees cover a weekend retreat at "Mottenburg" in Krefeld, designed to foster camaraderie and develop "soft skills" such as rhetoric, presentation techniques, and team building.

Alisa Aca concluded, "We maintain a pleasant atmosphere in the group." Gerhard P. Müller

Insights on Educational Programs in Germany

  • Program Overview: Educational programs in Germany often provide students with specialized skills or knowledge in specific fields.
  • Schedule: Program schedules can vary depending on the type of program and the educational institution offering it.
  • Costs: Costs may include tuition fees, materials, and travel expenses, depending on the program's structure.
  • Benefits: Program benefits often encompass enhanced educational opportunities, networking, and access to specialized resources.
