Revised Tesla Robotaxi App Features Include Advanced Pick-Up Adaptations and More Updates
Tesla has rolled out an update (version 25.7.6) for its Robotaxi app on iOS, bringing significant improvements to the autonomous ride-hailing experience. The update, available to early access users of the service, introduces smarter, adaptive pickups through new dynamic pickup logic.
The dynamic pickup logic allows the Robotaxi to navigate more effectively towards the user or a targeted location, homing in more intelligently rather than simply waiting in place. This enhancement is a real-world deployment of technology that will later enhance Tesla’s Smart Summon feature, enabling vehicles to come directly to the user, even navigating city streets and parking lots without needing line of sight or direct supervision.
One of the key improvements in the update is the dynamic pickup logic, which helps the Robotaxi approach the pickup location more effectively. Another notable feature is an added arrow in the app that assists users in finding their Robotaxi more easily.
The update was first reported by @OwenSparks_, who experienced a Robotaxi pulling up right next to him, despite the pinned pickup location being further ahead. This new pickup behavior is a significant improvement in convenience, especially for real-world scenarios where users may not be standing exactly at a predefined point.
In addition to these improvements, the update also includes bug fixes and UI design tweaks. Tesla has also confirmed that the Robotaxi software will soon be merged into Tesla’s public Full Self-Driving (FSD) builds.
The pilot program for Tesla’s Robotaxi service continues to evolve, with Tesla recently expanding the service area in Austin, Texas, just a week prior. A Tesla Robotaxi test vehicle was recently spotted operating outside Austin's geofenced area, hinting at a potential further expansion of coverage in the near future.
Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, confirmed this new pickup behavior in a tweet, stating that the update will make pickups smarter and more convenient, laying the groundwork for fully autonomous Summon capabilities on customer vehicles in the near future.
