In a significant move, Salad and Go, the popular chain known for its affordable, quick-service salads, has announced the closure of 41 locations across the country. This decision, made by the new CEO Mike Tattersfield, marks a major setback for a chain that had been rapidly expanding in recent years.

Tattersfield, who took on the role in April 2025 and is also a minority owner of the brand, stated that the closures will give the company the foundation it needs to grow stronger and make delicious, nutritious food accessible to all. The closures represent about two-thirds of the chain's Texas locations, a region where the company had been particularly active under the leadership of former CEO Charlie Morrison.

Morrison, the former CEO of Wingstop, joined Salad and Go in 2022 when it operated 50 locations. Under his leadership, the company saw a significant growth, finishing 2024 with 146 restaurants, more than triple the number it operated in 2021. However, Morrison stepped down in November over a difference in strategy with the board of directors.

The closures are concentrated in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and a few in the Dallas area. Despite these closures, Salad and Go will concentrate on 'strengthening' its presence in the Dallas Metro area and Oklahoma, where it has 10 units. The company currently operates fewer than 100 locations after a round of closures, according to estimates by Restaurant Business.

Tattersfield, who has helmed Caribou Coffee, Einstein Restaurant Group, and Panera Brands, was brought in as CEO after Morrison's departure. The chain, which was founded in Arizona, moved its headquarters to Texas and opened a large central kitchen facility in the state. Stores are small with no indoor seating and all prep work is done at production facilities.

There have been sporadic media reports of closures earlier this year, including one in Arizona and another in Texas in February. One source estimated that the chain would have fewer than 100 locations after this current round of closures.

Despite the closures, Salad and Go remains optimistic about its future. The company is focusing on improving its operations and expanding its reach, with a particular focus on the Dallas Metro area and Oklahoma. As Tattersfield put it, 'We are committed to providing high-quality, nutritious food to as many people as possible, and these closures will help us achieve that goal.'
