Renewed commitment to peace and transport collaboration in a key summit between Azerbaijan and the EU

On September 18, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan met with Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, in Baku. The discussions focused on advancing peace in the South Caucasus and strengthening strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

During the meeting, President Aliyev recalled his recent meeting in Tirana with President of the European Council António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. He also mentioned the ongoing export of Azerbaijani natural gas to 10 European countries, including eight EU member states. The export geography continues to expand in line with Europe's energy diversification goals, according to President Aliyev.

Commissioner Kos commended the progress made in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia by President Aliyev. She also acknowledged and praised Azerbaijan's humanitarian demining efforts in previously occupied territories. The EU official emphasized the growing success of Azerbaijan-EU energy cooperation and highlighted its potential in the transport sector. Future collaboration in this area holds significant promise, she added.

The EU reaffirmed its support for a lasting settlement in the region during the meeting. Commissioner Kos met in Turkey before her meeting with President Aliyev, but no publicly known individual was involved in this meeting, according to the available information.

The meeting between President Aliyev and Commissioner Kos was not confined to Baku. On September 19, they continued their discussions in Brussels, Belgium. During this meeting, it was announced that Azerbaijani natural gas is now being exported to 11 European countries, including nine EU member states.

Commissioner Kos once again congratulated President Aliyev on the progress in the peace process with Armenia. She reiterated the EU's support for a lasting settlement in the region. The discussions between Aliyev and Kos centered on the expansion of peace in the South Caucasus and the strengthening of strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

The EU official expressed her optimism about the potential for future collaboration in the transport sector between Azerbaijan and the European Union. This sector holds significant potential for growth and success, she concluded. The meetings between President Aliyev and Commissioner Kos mark a significant step forward in the relationship between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
