Region-specific examination of pig fur trade within the hairdressing and beauty sector, focusing on barbershops and nail care businesses
In a recent regional special audit, the Schweinfurt Customs Office uncovered numerous irregularities in the hairdressing and cosmetics sector. The audit, conducted by 90 officials from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) across Lower Franconia and large parts of Upper Franconia, aimed to combat illegal workers and undeclared employment relationships.
During the audit, potential violations were found in 42 cases. Evidence of fraudulent receipt of state social benefits was discovered in one case, while suspected withholding and misappropriation of wages were found in nine cases. Moreover, eight cases of illegal employment of foreign workers were identified, and non-payment of the statutory minimum wage of 12.82 euros was found in eight cases.
The audit involved the inspection of 79 businesses, during which 166 individuals were surveyed, and 17 investigations were initiated on-site. The Customs Administration used increased personnel to ensure the preventive character of these checks.
The customs investigations are ongoing, and no new information was provided about the specific sectors targeted for the next focus checks or any new measures or initiatives to combat undeclared work and illegal employment beyond the focus checks.
The Customs Administration conducts both nationwide and regional focus checks to maintain a high number of checks in certain sectors, with the aim of reducing the social acceptance of undeclared work and illegal employment.
