After nearly four years of closure, the Rahmede Valley Bridge on the A45 is set to reopen in February 2026. The first of two partial structures is expected to be ready by then, bringing relief to Lüdenscheid and the surrounding industrial region. However, adverse weather could potentially cause delays.

Construction began smoothly in the fall of 2023 and has been progressing well. The complex new bridge is a significant improvement over the dilapidated structure that was closed in December 2021 and eventually blown up in the spring of 2023. The closure led to considerable inconvenience, including detours, noise, exhaust fumes, traffic jams, and delivery delays.

State Secretary Christian Hirte from the Federal Ministry of Transport announced the reopening at the 'A45 Citizens' Festival' in Lüdenscheid. Initially, Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) had hoped for a faster reopening, aiming for spring 2026. However, the timeline has been adjusted due to weather-dependent tasks remaining in the construction process.

The reopening of the Rahmede Valley Bridge in February 2026 is eagerly awaited by Lüdenscheid and the adjacent industrial region. The bridge's return will alleviate the serious consequences of the almost four-year interruption of the north-south motorway line. While the opening is planned for the winter, adverse weather could potentially cause delays.
