Power repair is not happening due to exorbitant costs associated with the energy source.
The much-anticipated renovation of the eastern Kracht fountain, a prominent feature on Dresden's Neumarkt, has been delayed until 2025. The fountain, which has been out of operation since the 2002 flood, is in a poor state, with severe damage to its building substance and much of its technical equipment missing.
Originally scheduled to begin in October, the renovation project is expected to take about ten months. Due to the extensive repairs needed, the cost of the renovation has exceeded the initial budget of 1.8 million euros. As a result, the city hall is working on exploring cost-saving potential to make the project more financially viable.
Once the cost-saving measures have been evaluated, the renovation project will go back into the bidding process. The eastern Kracht fountain's renovation is not the only challenge facing the city; the western Kracht fountain also requires attention, and both fountains have been protected as historical monuments since 2019.
The Kracht fountains, east and west of the Golden Rider, were created in 1979. Despite their historical significance, they have been decaying for years. The city's commitment to restoring these iconic landmarks is a testament to its dedication to preserving Dresden's rich cultural heritage.
While the exact costs for the renovation of the eastern Kracht fountain are not yet determined, the city remains committed to bringing this beloved fountain back to its former glory. For updates on the progress of the renovation, residents and visitors are encouraged to check official Dresden city sources or local news outlets.
