Porsche 911 Design Gets a Fresh Spin with Gunther Werks F-26 Redesign
The Gunther Werks F-26, unveiled at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, is a highly exclusive, reimagined Porsche 911 that promises extreme performance, bespoke engineering, and a modern reinterpretation of the classic slantnose design.
Powering the F-26 is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six engine co-developed with Rothsport Racing, producing an impressive 1,000 horsepower and 750 lb-ft (1,017 Nm) of torque. This powerful engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, ensuring a raw, driver-focused experience.
Key dimensions and construction details include a lightweight kerb weight of approximately 1,225 kg (2,750 lbs), with a chassis that has been stiffened by a rollcage that increases rigidity by 200%. The rear axle is shifted rearward by 30 mm to improve weight distribution and stability.
The F-26 boasts race-oriented suspension, featuring a double wishbone front setup and a multilink rear suspension with fully custom arms, paired with adaptive JRZ dampers. It also comes equipped with motorsport-grade ABS, traction control, and hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is handled by large carbon ceramic discs with six-piston calipers upfront and four-piston calipers at the rear, with front rotors measuring 381 mm and rear rotors 355 mm. The car rides on custom 18-inch Turbo Twist magnesium monoblock wheels shod in Continental ExtremeContact Force tires, sized 295/30R18 front and 335/30R18 rear.
The design draws heavily on Porsche’s slantnose heritage, featuring carbon fibre body panels, a bespoke carbon fibre front with fixed slantnose-style headlights, pronounced wheel arches, large side air intakes, a squared-off rear end, and a significant carbon fibre rear wing for downforce. The exhaust is a bespoke 935-style unit adding to the race-inspired aesthetic and sound.
Inside, the cockpit combines high craftsmanship and function with abundant Alcantara, leather, and exposed carbon fibre. The steering wheel design is inspired by fighter jet wing profiles, while a wooden gear knob nods to Porsche’s racing tradition. Modern convenience comes from a Porsche Classic stereo system with Apple CarPlay integration.
The production of the F-26 is strictly limited to only 26 units worldwide, each commanding a starting price of approximately $1.57 million. This rarity and the exceptional blend of classic style with brutal modern performance make the Gunther Werks F-26 one of the most extreme and coveted reinterpretations of the Porsche 911 to date.
However, it's worth noting that the writer's previous experience with one of the early cars was not comfortable due to its aggressively progressive steering.
