Poland's New Central Airport Design Unveiled, Set to Open by 2032
A massive consortium, led by Foster + Partners and Buro Happold, is designing Poland's new central airport. The project, set to open by 2032, has submitted over 6,250 construction drawings and 50 reports for building permits. The airport, located 40km southwest of Warsaw, will replace Chopin Airport and offer hub qualities.
The passenger terminal, spanning about 450,000 square meters, will initially handle around 11,000 passengers per hour. It will accommodate 50 to 68 aircraft at the apron, equipped with passenger bridges. Phase I will include 40 check-in positions for narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, with 18 flexible positions.
The airport will integrate multiple transport modes, with half of the passengers expected to arrive by train. The project aims to apply for building permits by the end of 2024, with operations starting by 2032. Long-term, the Central Communication Port (CPK) airport in Baranów is expected to handle up to 50 million passengers annually by the mid-2040s, with about 30 million in the initial phase and around 40 million by 2035.
The new airport, set to open by 2032, will significantly relieve Chopin Airport and offer improved transport connectivity. With a focus on sustainability and integration, it aims to handle up to 50 million passengers annually by the mid-2040s.
