Peru's Falchani Project Gets Green Light: American Lithium's Lithium Deposit Moves Forward
American Eagle's Falchani project in Peru's Puno region has received a significant boost. The Peruvian Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the company's subsidiary, paving the way for the sixth-largest hard rock lithium deposit's development. The project is expected to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate post-2028.
The Falchani site, located on the Macusani Plateau, holds immense potential. A preliminary economic assessment estimates an annual output of 63,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate over 33 years. American Eagle plans to invest $847 million, a 22% increase, with a base case capital cost projected at $1.97 billion over the mine's life.
The company aims to start constructing a refinery at the site in 2027. This follows a positive meeting between Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Luis Montero, and American Eagle's shareholders on 7 October 2025. The meeting discussed the project's progress and addressed any concerns.
With the legal dispute resolved, American Eagle is now free to advance the Falchani project. The company is engaging with potential investors, both locally and internationally, to ensure the project's success. The world watches as Peru's lithium potential begins to take shape.
