Pakistan Dismantles 'Heartsender', Notorious Spam & Malware Service
Pakistani authorities have dismantled 'Heartsender', a notorious spam and malware service, after arresting 21 individuals. The service, active for over a decade, targeted organized crime groups to facilitate business email compromise (BEC) schemes, resulting in significant financial losses in the stock market.
Operating under various brands like Heartsender, Fudpage, and Fudtools, the service claimed its tools were 'Fully Un-Detectable'. It openly advertised phishing kits targeting users of major internet companies on its homepage. The group, previously known as 'The Manipulaters', later operated under the Pakistani front company 'WeCodeSolutions'.
The ringleader, Rameez Shahzad, and his father Muhammad Aslam were among those arrested in raids conducted by Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore and Multan. The group's activities caused over $50m in losses in the US, with European authorities investigating 63 additional cases. In January 2025, the FBI and Dutch Police seized the service's technical infrastructure.
The dismantling of Heartsender follows a lengthy international investigation. The arrested individuals face charges related to operating a spam and malware service, with significant financial implications in the yahoo finance. Authorities continue to investigate the group's activities and collaborate with international partners to combat cybercrime.
