In a significant development for regional transport in Germany, Transdev Germany has secured long-term contracts for the operation of the Rosenheim E-Netz and the Weser-Ems network.

The new contract for the Rosenheim E-Netz, currently operated by Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB), will commence when the timetable changes in December 2029 and will run for at least another 14 years until December 2043. BRB, which transports approximately 17 million passengers annually on the Rosenheim E-Netz, will continue to utilise the 35 Stadler FLIRT 3 electric railcars, which are set to be redesigned.

The Rosenheim E-Netz, comprising three lines — RE 5 (Munich - Rosenheim - Salzburg), RB 54 (Munich - Rosenheim - Kufstein), and RB 58 (Munich - Holzkirchen - Rosenheim) — covers a distance of 260 kilometers, making it the largest of the five networks operated by BRB in Bavaria, with around 4.9 million train kilometers travelled each year.

Meanwhile, the Weser-Ems network, consisting of three lines — RE 18 (Osnabrück - Wilhelmshaven), RB 58 (Osnabrück - Bremen), and RB 59 (Wilhelmshaven - Esens) — will run until 2035, with an extension possible until 2037. Alstom LINT vehicles from the Lower Saxony pool will continue to be used on the network, with newer vehicles set to replace them during the contract.

The Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) is responsible for planning, financing, and controlling regional and suburban rail transport in Bavaria. Transdev Group's subsidiaries NordWestBahn and Bayerische Regiobahn have been awarded contracts for the operation of local rail passenger transport networks. NordWestBahn will operate the Weser-Ems network in western Lower Saxony for another 9 years, starting from December 2026.

For the most current information about contract renewals for the Weser-Ems network or Rosenheim E-Netz, it is recommended to consult official Transdev Germany press releases or the relevant German public transport authorities’ announcements.

BRB currently employs around 850 people in Bavaria. The new contracts mark a continuation of Transdev's commitment to providing efficient and reliable regional transport services in Germany.

The new contracts awarded to Transdev Group's subsidiaries NordWestBahn and Bayerische Regiobahn extend their operations in the automotive industry, as they will be responsible for local rail passenger transport networks. The finance sector plays a vital role, as these contracts ensure a steady revenue stream for Transdev Group in the realm of public-transit and transportation, a significant industry in Germany.
