NPS to Close GW Parkway Southbound Lanes for Tree Maintenance in Early October
The National Park Service (NPS) has planned temporary closures of the southbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway for essential tree maintenance. The work, scheduled to avoid peak rush hours, will cause diversions onto Park Terrace Drive on specific dates in early October.
The closures are set for Oct. 1, 2, 6, and 7, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists should expect diversions onto Park Terrace Drive during these periods. This maintenance is part of the NPS's broader tree care efforts along the parkway between Mount Vernon and south of Alexandria. The agency aims to minimise disruptions for commuters by scheduling work outside peak traffic times.
The George Washington Memorial Parkway, running along the Virginia side of the Potomac River, serves as a crucial commuter route for Northern Virginia residents traveling to Washington, D.C. It connects Alexandria to the Beltway, making these closures significant for local traffic.
The NPS will temporarily close southbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway for tree maintenance work on Oct. 1, 2, 6, and 7. Southbound traffic will be diverted onto Park Terrace Drive during these periods. Commuters should plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.
