MVB Kicks Off Major Tram Network Modernization This Fall
Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG (MVB) is actively modernizing its tram network this fall, aiming to enhance efficiency, reliability, and future-proofing. Several districts are set to see improvements, with work commencing from October 6.
In Stadtfeld Ost, modernizations on Olvenstedter Straße are progressing, with work now moving to Olvenstedter Platz. Meanwhile, track renewal between Sudenburger Wuhne and the on-ramp to Magdeburger Ring is scheduled from October 6, expected to be completed by Christmas.
Tram service in Alt Westerhüsen will be suspended during the fall vacation from October 13 to 24, with a replacement bus service set up. Construction work to renew tracks in the area begins on October 6, causing temporary car traffic restrictions. Overhead lines in Fermersleben between Friedrich-List-Straße and Salbker Platz are also being renewed.
Track replacement between Olvenstedter Platz and Europaring is planned by December 18, with some work taking place in night shifts. The renovation of the tram tracks at Olvenstedter Platz in Stadtfeld Ost was recently completed with a brief traffic interruption from September 8 to September 10, 2025.
These improvements are part of MVB's ongoing investment in infrastructure. Once completed, trams on Halberstädter Straße will be able to travel at up to 50 km/h, significantly shortening travel times. The public is advised to expect some disruptions during the fall months as these essential works continue.
