Mercedes-Benz Announces Debut of Electric VLE Luxury People Mover in 2026

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for an electric future, as the automaker has announced plans to introduce the VLE, a new luxury people mover, in markets like North America and China starting from 2026. The VLE is designed to cater to families, adventurers, and VIP shuttle services, marking a significant step in Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle strategy.

The impending arrival of the VLE was confirmed by a successful 1090km journey from Stuttgart to Rome, a test that showcased the real-world, long-distance efficiency of the new Van Electric Architecture. The route, which included challenging Alpine passes, long autobahn stretches, and Italy's famously narrow urban streets, was completed by the VLE with only two quick charging stops, each lasting 15 minutes.

Outside temperatures ranged from 11°C to 33°C during the journey, but cabin comfort remained constant at 22°C, a testament to the VLE's advanced climate control system. The VLE's rear-axle steering, a feature designed to ease the stress of city driving and mountain getaways, enhanced agility and handling throughout the journey.

The VLE will underpin both commercial transporters and premium people-movers called Grand Limousines. The model is intended to be a direct successor to the V-Class people mover, and it will offer up to eight seats. However, local launch details and exact power outputs in kilowatts for the VLE have not been disclosed yet.

Mercedes-Benz's electric future is progressing, as indicated by the Stuttgart-to-Rome run. The VLE's successful long-distance journey underscores the automaker's commitment to electric mobility and its confidence in the new Van Electric Architecture. The VLE is set to debut in 2026, promising to redefine luxury people mover travel in the electric era.
