Unraveling the Mystery of Renée's Lakefront Villa: Auxiliary Possessions up for Grabs
Luxury villa owned by Benkos on Lake Garda is up for auction
Step into the opulent world of Renée Benko, the criminally convicted Swiss business mogul, through the inventory auction of his jaw-dropping Lake Garda villa. Despite the insolvency administrator's efforts, access to the villa itself remains elusive.
The esteemed villa, Villa Ansaldi, is a testament to Renée's affluent past and houses a cornucopia of remnants, like wine glasses, guest robes, and signed thank-you notes from the who's who of celebrities such as Tina Turner, Niki Lauda, and Silvio Berlusconi. The villa, while officially a corporate representation, played host to Renée's grand 40th birthday bash in 2017 - a lavish affair costing a staggering half a million euros.
The Signa group, Renée's business empire, crumbled in November 2023, marking the largest insolvency event in Swiss history. Since January 2025, Renée has been in custody, accused of fraud, insolvency offenses, and tax evasion. The Signa creditors are demanding billions from him.
To partially cover these staggering claims, the insolvency administrator is auctioning off the entire inventory of Villa Ansaldi. Items up for grabs range from personal mementoes, such as the celebrity guestbook or old newspapers from Renée's birthday, to domestic essentials like used frying pans, doormats, and a detailed toilet brush. Cheap landline phones with starting bids as low as 1 euro and high-end designer furniture priced in thousands of euros can also be found.
Whispers of a Hidden Owner
The villa's operations are evident in its high-quality catering equipment, expansive fitness studio supplies, numerous office furniture, lawnmowers, helicopter fuel storage, and an enviable wine collection.
Interested bidders can inspect the items in person on July 5, whore registrations are required. The auction culminates online on July 14, hosted by the Austrian auction house Aurena.
More than 1800 items are up for grabs in total. While the property itself is not included in the auction, neither owned by the Signa group nor Renée, it is officially leased by a Luxembourg-based company, whose owner remains unknown. Media speculations suggest that this company is one of Renée's alleged foundations, designed to safeguard vast portions of his wealth from creditors[1][2][3][4].
