Liverpool Stands Firm on Alexander-Arnold's January Transfer to Real Madrid, According to MARCA Reports

Liverpool, a prominent name in the Premier League, has reportedly turned down Real Madrid's potential interest in selling Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, as per MARCA's sources.

Alexander-Arnold, aged 26, has been devoted to Liverpool for over two decades.

With his contract ending on June 30, 2025, the likelihood of his departure to Real Madrid seems more plausible, given the current circumstances.

The right-back has been the subject of endless speculations with Real Madrid since last year's rumors surfaced.

President Florentino Perez reportedly aims to speed up the process by persuading Liverpool to sell Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window for a reduced fee, given the current circumstances.

The blow from Dani Carvajal's season-ending injury in October has exacerbated the situation. With an aging Lucas Vazquez as the only alternative, head coach Carlo Ancelotti is left with a defender who isn't naturally suited to the right-back position.

This week, The Times reported an £20 million ($28 million) bid by Madrid for Alexander-Arnold, which was promptly turned down.

MARCA also reported that initial talks have taken place between the involved parties regarding a potential deal. Liverpool's directors reportedly conveyed their stance about not selling their player early.

"We don't want to sell our player now," they allegedly stated, and the reasoning is simple.

While some may question the logic in seemingly letting go of a player who may depart for free in under six months, Liverpool is unwilling to part ways with a player who is widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position alongside Dani Carvajal. Liverpool has ambitions to win the Premier League and Champions League this season, and Alexander-Arnold's presence is instrumental to achieving these goals.

Liverpool is leading the English domestic championship by six points and has an advantage of a game in hand over second-place Arsenal. On the continent, Liverpool is also leading the UCL's initial new league phase, holding a three-point edge over FC Barcelona.

Therefore, Perez seems to be in for a wait, much like he was with Kylian Mbappe, as he tries to secure Alexander-Arnold's signing, and the same logic could apply to soon-to-be free agent Alphonso Davies.

Despite Liverpool's current lead in the Premier League and the Champions League, Bayer Munich and FC Barcelona have shown interest in securing Trent Alexander-Arnold's services. Jude Bellingham, who recently transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, could potentially replace Alexander-Arnold if he were to leave Liverpool. Despite Real Madrid's efforts, Kylian Mbappe's move to the Spanish giants remains uncertain, similar to the situation regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold.
