Kazakhstan's Dostyk-Moynyt Railway Gets Second Line, Boosting Cargo Capacity and Reducing Travel Times
Kazakhstan's head of state inaugurated the second line of the Dostyk-Moynyt railway on September 30, stretching 836 km. This marks a significant milestone in the country's transport infrastructure, with the new line set to boost cargo volumes and reduce travel times.
The new railway line, which connects Kazakhstan and China, is a testament to the long-standing partnership between the two nations. Initially connected 35 years ago, the railways have since facilitated the transportation of over 400 million tons of cargo.
The launch of the second lines on the Dostyk-Moynyt railway is expected to significantly increase cargo volumes. The new line will boost capacity to 50 million tons of cargo, a fivefold increase on this section. Furthermore, construction is already underway for the third border crossing, Bakhty-Tacheng. Once operational, this crossing will further enhance capacity to 100 million tons of cargo and reduce travel time by 12-14 hours across Kazakhstan.
The Dostyk-Moynyt railway's second line and the upcoming Bakhty-Tacheng crossing are set to significantly enhance Kazakhstan's role as a transport hub. Experts anticipate increased cargo volumes and reduced travel times, fostering further growth in the country's trade and economic development.
