JPMorgan CEO Dimon held a conversation with the Democratic NYC mayoral candidate labeled as a 'Marxist' according to recent reports.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee in the New York City mayoral race, is surging ahead despite criticisms and apprehensions from the city's business community. Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has proposed a series of progressive policies aimed at addressing major issues such as housing affordability and cost of living, which are top concerns among voters.

One of Mamdani's key policy proposals is the establishment of city-owned grocery stores that would operate on a rent-free basis and buy and sell at "wholesale prices." He also pledged to immediately freeze rents for tenants in rent-stabilized units.

Mamdani's campaign platform includes a plan to "implement free childcare for every New Yorker aged 6 weeks to 5 years." He has also proposed building 200,000 new units of "permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized homes" over the next decade. Furthermore, Mamdani has called for increasing the city's minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030.

However, Mamdani's campaign has not been without controversy. His proposals, including the freezing of rents and the establishment of city-owned grocery stores, have been met with criticism from some quarters. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, previously criticized Mamdani as a "Marxist." Dimon made these comments at an event in Ireland last month.

Despite these criticisms, Mamdani has been making significant headway in the mayoral race. He has a sizable lead over his main rivals in the November election. New York State Attorney General Letitia James and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, among others, have helped facilitate meetings for Mamdani.

In a reportedly friendly call, Dimon had a conversation with Mamdani. The details of the call were reported by Bloomberg News, citing people briefed on the call. Kathryn Wylde, the CEO of Partnership for New York City, has also helped make connections with business leaders for Mamdani and other mayoral candidates.

Mamdani has not shied away from criticizing delivery app platforms for exploiting "deliveristas" - 80,000 Black, brown, and immigrant workers. He has proposed measures to address this issue and improve working conditions for these workers.

In summary, Zohran Mamdani's progressive platform, which includes making public buses free, freezing rents for rent-stabilized units, providing free child care, raising the minimum wage to $30 per hour, and establishing city-owned grocery stores, has helped him gain a significant lead in the New York City mayoral race. Despite criticisms from the city's business community, Mamdani continues to surge ahead, promising to address the concerns of voters on housing affordability and cost of living.
