State Collaboration: Iowa Department of Transportation and Free Co. Unite to Roll Out Kinetic Mobility Advanced Traffic Management System Across the State

Iowa's Department of Transportation joins forces with Free to install advanced traffic management technology across the state, dubbed the Kinetic Mobility System.

The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) has chosen Q-Free's Kinetic Mobility to modernise its Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), marking the second statewide deployment of this innovative technology.

Iowa DOT, which manages over 9,600 miles of state and U.S. roads, will deploy multiple Kinetic Mobility modules, including Events, Signs, Travel Time, Weather, Corridors, and Video. This decision follows a successful rollout in West Virginia earlier this year.

Q-Free's Senior Project Manager for Iowa, Christopher Butler, PMP, played a significant role in the selection process. Butler was impressed by the breadth, modularity, and security of Kinetic Mobility, which allows agencies to choose only the capabilities they need, eliminating unnecessary costs while maximising value.

Iowa DOT responded very strongly to seeing the platform's functionality and ease of use in real time. Prospective customers often experience a 'light bulb' moment, recognising just how flexible the platform is in meeting their unique needs, when they see Kinetic Mobility in action.

Q-Free has been awarded a multi-year agreement by the Iowa DOT, including an 18-month setup and deployment phase, followed by a minimum two-year maintenance agreement. The agency collaborates with more than 600 third-party users, including maintenance garages, 911/law enforcement (e911) centres, and neighbouring states, sharing crucial road information.

The new contract for Q-Free's Kinetic Mobility introduces a modern, future-ready approach to ATMS technology. Q-Free previously deployed the agency's legacy ATMS. The Iowa DOT, known for its commitment to delivering top-tier service to residents and visitors alike, continues to lead the way in developing strategies and deploying technology to keep Iowa's roadways safe and efficient.
