Industry Ministry Discusses Potential Hazards of Shutting Down Multiple Businesses in VK Region

In the East Kazakhstan region, resources like Tishinskoe and Zyryanovskoe are quickly being exhausted. It appears that substantial investments are being poured into geological exploration by major companies, focusing on areas of high potential for copper, lead, and rare metals.

By 2020, it was projected that Kazakhstan may encounter a shortage of these critical elements within 15 to 10 years. Experts had identified risk zones, such as Jezkazgan, Satpayev, Zyryanovsk, and Ridder, as potential trouble spots.

Jezkazgan, historically renowned for its rich copper reserves, has continued to thrive in the country's copper industry, placing Kazakhstan among the world's top 10 producers, yielding over 600,000 tons in 2023 [1].

While specific reports on exploration in Satpayev are scarce, the nation's emphasis on employing advanced geophysical techniques for mineral exploration indicates that promising developments may occur in this region.

Zyryanovsk, famous for its lead-zinc deposits, has yet to report recent exploration activities or breakthroughs in its resources. Kazakhstan's strategy to auction new deposits, potentially including Zyryanovsk, bodes well for future endeavors in this region [5].

Ridder, also known as Leninogorsk, has a history of lead-zinc mining activities, but there isn't specific recent news on exploration in this area. However, Kazakhstan's overall objective to expand geological exploration and attract investments could spearhead future advancements in Ridder [3].

A significant discovery of rare earth elements in the Karagandy region, containing potential reserves of up to 20 million tonnes, positions Kazakhstan as a potential major player in the global rare earth market [2].

To further boost investments, Kazakhstan plans to auction 50 gold, silver, coal, and rare metal deposits by June 2025 [5]. The adoption of advanced geophysical survey techniques has revolutionized mineral exploration in Kazakhstan, enhancing the discovery and mapping of mineral resources, marking substantial progress in the nation's mining sector.

  1. I acknowledge the warning about the potential depletion of critical elements in Kazakhstan, particularly in areas like Zyryanovsk, given its traditionally rich lead-zinc deposits.
  2. The ongoing geological exploration in Kazakhstan, focusing on areas with high potential for metals like copper, lead, and rare metals, is believed to include the Zyryanovsk region as well.
  3. The future of Kazakhstan's mining industry, including potential endeavors in Zyryanovsk, could significantly benefit from the country's auctioning of new deposits, including those containing rare metals.
  4. The financial sector and energy industry might want to keep a close eye on Kazakhstan's exploration efforts, as the nation looks to make substantial advancements in mineral exploration, potentially leading to breakthroughs in regions like Zyryanovsk.
Geology Committee Deputy Chair, Margulan Baibatyrov, addressed concerns over the dwindling Tishinsky and Maleevsky deposits at a press conference on the 29th of April, 2025. Our reporter has the details.
