Illinois casino revenues surge 15% in June 2024 compared to the same period in 2024, yet showing a decline from May's earnings.
Illinois Casinos See Strong Growth in July 2025
The Illinois gaming industry is experiencing a surge in revenue, with the state's casinos generating over $167.5 million in July 2025. This represents a significant 23.3% increase year-over-year compared to July 2024's $135.8 million.
The top-performing commercial casinos in Illinois as of July 2025 are Rivers Casino Des Plaines and Wind Creek Chicago Southland. Rivers Casino Des Plaines led with over $44 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR), making it the only casino to exceed $19 million that month. Wind Creek Chicago Southland followed with approximately $18.8 million in revenue.
Slots were the primary contributor to the total revenue, accounting for around $127.6 million, while table games accounted for less than $40 million. This growth in revenue is largely due to the opening of new casinos, such as the recently opened land-based site replacing Hollywood Casino Joliet.
Wind Creek Chicago Southland, located in the south suburbs (Homewood-East Hazel Crest area), features a 70,000 sq-ft gaming floor with 1,400 slots and 56 table games. The casino is currently undergoing resort development, aiming for an AAA Four Diamond rating, which includes hotel rooms, restaurants, and entertainment facilities.
However, Hollywood Casino Joliet showed a notable drop of 44% due to a closure during the transition to a new facility. Harrah’s Joliet declined slightly by 3%.
Here's a breakdown of the approximate GGR for the top Illinois casinos in July 2025:
| Casino | July 2025 GGR (approx.) | Year-over-Year Change | Notes | |----------------------------|-------------------------|----------------------|-----------------------------------------------------| | Rivers Casino Des Plaines | $44 million+ | Significant growth | Top-performing casino, only one over $19 million | | Wind Creek Chicago Southland| $18.8 million | Positive growth | Large casino with ongoing resort development | | Hollywood Casino Joliet | $4.2 million | -44% | Partial closure, transitioning to new land-based site | | Harrah’s Joliet | $10.6 million | -3% | Slight decline |
Overall, Illinois' casino market is bucking the country-wide trend of declining in-person casino revenues this summer, showing strong expansion and revenue growth through July 2025.
