Hyundai Motor America designates a new marketing overseer

Hyundai Motor America has announced the appointment of Sean Gilpin as its new Chief Marketing Officer, effective from August 26, 2021. The news comes as the company continues to experience growth, particularly in the hybrid and electric vehicle segments.

Gilpin will take over from Angela Zepeda, who resigned from her position to pursue opportunities outside the automotive industry. Zepeda served as the chief marketing officer of Hyundai Motor America from October 2019 until her resignation in early August 2021. Prior to her resignation, she was also appointed as the chief creative officer of Hyundai Motor America.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, expressed gratitude towards Zepeda for her contributions to the company's business growth. "Angela has been a valuable member of our team, and we appreciate her efforts in driving our success," he said.

Gilpin has a rich history with Hyundai, having previously served as vice president of global sales marketing for Hyundai Motor Co. since July last year. Prior to this, he was a senior manager of retail marketing at Hyundai Motor America from March 2015 through October 2016.

In his new role, Gilpin will oversee Hyundai Motor America's marketing strategy, creative execution, social, experiential marketing, multicultural marketing, media buying strategy, customer communications, and financial management. He will report directly to Randy Parker.

The appointment of Gilpin as CMO is a response to the growing news of the company, including hybrid and electric vehicles. Hyundai Motor America's sales, including hybrid and electric vehicles, are growing, and electrified models account for nearly 20% of the company's total sales in Q2.

In July 2021, Hyundai Motor Co. reported Q2 revenue of 45 trillion won, a 6.6% year-over-year increase and the highest-ever quarterly mark in company history. The company has also posted two consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in the hybrid vehicle segment in 2024.

Randy Parker praised Gilpin's new role, stating that he brings new thinking and strategies to the marketing and advertising of the company. "Sean brings a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the table, and we are confident that he will help us continue to grow and succeed in the market," he said.

Gilpin's appointment as CMO does not affect his global responsibilities as VP of global sales marketing for Hyundai Motor Co. He will retain his global responsibilities alongside his new role at Hyundai Motor America.

There remains a tremendous opportunity to enhance consumer understanding of Hyundai's innovation, mobility leadership, and vision for the future of transportation. With Gilpin at the helm of marketing efforts, Hyundai Motor America is poised to continue its growth and success in the automotive industry.
