HMD Unveils Its New Phone Line in Ghana, Tailored for Domestic Market Requirements
HMD Makes Its Debut in Ghana's Mobile Market
Human Mobile Devices (HMD), the official smartphone partner of FC Barcelona, made a significant stride in April 2025 by launching its new lineup of devices in Ghana. The launch event, held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, marked HMD's entry into the Ghanaian market.
At the event, HMD unveiled four new devices tailored to the Ghanaian market: the HMD Arc, HMD Aura 2, Nokia 130 Music, and Nokia 150 Music. Usman Shahid, HMD's Head of Sales Operations & New Business - AMEA, emphasised the importance of providing consumers with value, reliability, and style.
HMD's new lineup focuses on durability, music functionality, and affordability. The HMD Arc and HMD Aura 2, for instance, boast 5000mAh batteries that can last up to three days, ensuring long-lasting use. Remarkably, even after 800 charge cycles, these devices retain an 80% battery health.
Moreover, HMD is betting on locally relevant features like long battery life, repairability, and music-centric designs. The feature phones from HMD offer up to a month of standby time, making them ideal for Ghana's consumers who value affordability and reliability.
The mobile phone penetration rate in Ghana exceeds 100%, indicating a highly saturated market with widespread use of mobile devices integrated deeply into economic and social activities. This, coupled with the growing demand for affordable and possibly refurbished smartphones, presents a favorable opportunity for HMD to establish or grow its presence in Ghana.
The Middle East and Africa region, which includes Ghana, is expected to experience significant growth in the refurbished smartphone market. This shows a positive environment for new or affordable mobile brands like HMD.
The new devices from HMD are now available through selected retail and online channels across Ghana. As HMD navigates this promising market, more detailed performance data will undoubtedly emerge, shedding light on the company's success in Ghana.
