Grocery conglomerate, Heritage Grocers Group, names new Chief Administrative Officer
In the bustling world of grocery retail, Heritage Grocers Group (HGG) has made a significant move by appointing Leticia G. Espinoza as their new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The announcement, made in July 2025, signals Espinoza's elevated position within the industry [1].
Based in six states - California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas, and Illinois - HGG operates a total of 58 stores under four different banners: Cardenas Markets, El Rancho Supermercado, Tony's Fresh Market, and Los Altos Ranch Market. The company, which is ranked No. 70 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America, focuses on offering both traditional and specialty grocery items to diverse communities [1].
Espinoza's role at HGG is multi-faceted, encompassing oversight of real estate, loss prevention, corporate affairs, communications, legal, risk management, and human resources [1]. Her extensive background in law, with more than 25 years of legal experience, including over two decades in executive in-house roles for both publicly traded and privately owned organizations, makes her well-suited for this role [1].
Before joining HGG, Espinoza served as the chief legal and human resources officer at the company. Prior to that, she joined the Cardenas Markets banner in 2019 as general counsel and corporate secretary [1].
Recognition for Espinoza's leadership and dedication extends beyond her role at HGG. She was honoured with the Professional Achievement Award from the Mexican American Bar Foundation and was named a Top Woman in Grocery (TWIG) in the Senior-Level Executives category by Progressive Grocer in both 2022 and 2025 [1].
Under the leadership of HGG's new CEO, Suzy Monford, the company is working with various technology partners such as Instacart, Caper, and RELEX to define what it means to be a modern Hispanic and tech-forward grocer [1].
In addition to her role at HGG, Espinoza serves on the board of directors for several organisations, including the Cardenas Markets Foundation, the Heritage Grocers Group Foundation, Manos y Corazones Unidos Foundation, Olive Crest Roundtable, and the Arizona Food Marketing Alliance [1].
The appointment of Leticia G. Espinoza as CAO at Heritage Grocers Group marks a significant step in the company's growth trajectory, with Suzy Monford, the new CEO, discussing the growth of the company's three brands in an interview with Progressive Grocer [1]. Other executive changes at HGG include the promotions of Kim Cates to group VP of merchandising, Allison Garcia to group VP of marketing, and Matthew Holt as the new CFO, following the retirement of Darren Karst [1].
