Germany Raids Uncover Widespread Labour Law Violations and Illegal Employment
Recent inspections across Germany have uncovered numerous labour law violations and illegal employment practices. The Financial Control Schwarzarbeit conducted raids at 41 main customs offices nationwide, including the Main Customs Office Lörrach, on September 19, 2025.
In Lörrach, authorities discovered four cases where employers failed to promptly express their employees' rights and four instances of non-compliance with working hour recording obligations. Notably, a Turkish employee wanted by the police was found, and three cases of unauthorized employment were unearthed. This individual, a Turkish national, was subject to an arrest warrant due to repeated work permit violations.
In Freiburg, 22 cases require a thorough review of social security contribution payments, and 12 cases are under investigation for the illegal employment of foreigners. Employers found guilty may face charges for aiding and abetting illegal residence and employment of foreigners. Meanwhile, in the Offenburger location, several catering establishments were employing foreign workers without valid residence permits, and a minor was found working illegally. Authorities were also seeking an Iraqi employee for location determination and a Turkish employee for arrest in this area.
The inspections, aimed at securing social systems and state revenues, ensure fair working conditions and competitive business environments.
The nationwide inspections have led to the discovery of numerous labour law violations and illegal employment practices. Employers found guilty may face charges, and authorities continue to pursue wanted employees. These efforts aim to protect workers' rights, ensure fair competition, and safeguard state revenues.
