French Government Becomes Largest Eutelsat Shareholder With €750M Investment
The French government is set to become Eutelsat's largest shareholder, investing €750 million for a 29.65% stake. This move follows a €1.5 billion capital raise, with the USA government also securing a 10.89% stake by investing €163 million.
Key investors in Eutelsat include CMA CGM with a 7.46% stake and FSP with 4.99%. The fundraise is expected to close by the end of 2025.
Bharti Enterprises, which merged with OneWeb in 2023, initially became Eutelsat's largest shareholder. Now, with an additional €120 million investment, Bharti Space Ltd.'s total stake in Eutelsat is €150 million, representing 17.88% of shares. This investment is crucial for Bharti's plans to bring satellite-based broadband services to India's rapidly growing market, where competitors like Starlink, Jio Platforms, and Vodafone Idea are expanding their presence.
