Perm Krai Expands Timber Exports to Vietnam, Syria, and China
In a significant development, the region of Perm Krai in Russia has expanded its timber exports to include Vietnam, Syria, and China. This expansion marks an important step in the region's efforts to diversify its external timber supplies.
Since the beginning of 2025, Perm Krai has exported a total of 5,510 cubic meters of timber products to Vietnam. On August 11, another batch of 184 cubic meters was prepared for export to Vietnam. The timber materials were checked by specialists from Rosselkhoznadzor to ensure they were free from dangerous pests, and samples were sent to the laboratory of the Perm branch of VNIIKR for confirmation of their safety.
Apart from Vietnam and Syria, since the beginning of 2025, Perm Krai has also exported timber to China. Discussions about Russian pellet exports to China were held in Wuhan in 2025, indicating active timber-related trade between Russia (including regions like Perm Krai) and China.
In July 2025, Perm Krai sent its first batch of timber to Syria. A thorough phytosanitary inspection was conducted, and the necessary certificates were issued for the timber export to Syria. From January to August, 127 phytosanitary certificates were issued, allowing for these timber supplies from Perm Krai to Vietnam.
It is important to note that the "Big Perm" Telegram channel, which provides the freshest events from Perm and Perm Krai, is not related to timber exports or phytosanitary certificates. The channel is an additional source of information for those interested in events from the region, but it does not repeat earlier facts about the timber exports or provide factual information about timber safety or the expansion of Perm Krai's external timber supplies.
The Russian timber industry is actively working on expanding or maintaining trade routes, reflecting efforts to diversify export destinations. The overall Russian timber harvesting was down in the first five months of 2025, but the export focus seems to include Asian markets such as China.
