Bomb Discovered at BASF Schwarzheide Site: A Familiar Scenario

A World War II-era American bomb has been unearthed during construction work at the BASF Schwarzheide GmbH site in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, marking another instance of such discoveries at the location.

The spokesperson for BASF Schwarzheide GmbH confirmed that this is not the first time a bomb has been found on the site, with a previous incident occurring in December 2024.

Upon discovery, the area around the explosive device was immediately cordoned off to ensure the safety of workers and nearby residents. The bomb disposal unit has assessed the situation, but no new information about the bomb's immediate danger, cordoned-off area, or involvement of authorities was provided.

The American bomb discovered at BASF in Schwarzheide is not posing an immediate danger, according to the latest updates.

In such situations, the usual process involves immediate evacuation and safety measures, notification of authorities, assessment by EOD experts, controlled disposal, site clearance, and safety confirmation.

Following this protocol, experts will inspect and evaluate the bomb to determine its condition, type, and the safest method for neutralization. Depending on the assessment, the bomb will either be defused on-site or transported to a secure location for controlled detonation. After disposal, the area will be thoroughly checked to confirm that no additional explosive devices remain and that it is safe to resume normal activities.

Together with all parties involved, a course of action is being developed to handle this latest discovery. Approximately 2,000 employees work at the BASF Schwarzheide site, and their safety remains a top priority.

World War II-era bombs have been discovered multiple times at the BASF Schwarzheide site due to the region's extensive involvement in wartime activities. Despite these occasional disruptions, the site continues to operate, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of the community and the company.
