YAKUTIA.INFO. Brace yourself, Yakutsk! The city's heart is booming with a monstrous quarterly development surge. Remember our previous yarn about "Quarter 68" on the plot sandwiched between "Olonkholend" and "Prometheus"? Or the ongoing development of the "Star" quarter? Well, the "17th Quarter" residents are moving house, and the infamous plot's new tenant is none other than the upcoming "Sports Quarter".

Back in 2021, State Duma Deputy Mikhail Делягиn paid a visit, raised some eyebrows about the situation, and then vanished like a ghost in the tundra. But now, let's talk about the present. Yesterday, house 63/1 on Yakutsk Street bowed out gracefully as the first fully evacuated building in the new "Sports Quarter".

So, what's the plan? According to the powers that be, a towering high-rise will rise by 2025, though the first pillar was already set in August 2023. If you're feeling nostalgic, here's a quick reminder about this quarter.

The "Sports Quarter" is set to accommodate a whopping 13,500 people - that's a town larger than Viluisk! It'll be nestled amidst the infamous "17th Quarter". To the east, it'll rub shoulders with the private sector around Peschanaya Street, to the south - with residential and commercial buildings on Semen Danilova Street, to the north - with the Circumferential Highway, and to the west - with Republic Hospital No.2 and the YANIIT lake. Officially, these are quarters: "2a", "2b", "2g", "4a", "4b", "4v", and "17". The barracks built between 1966 and 1995 will be demolished here. Public buildings such as the Olympic Reserve School, the "Smile" kindergarten, and an orphanage school will also face the wrecking ball.

The construction blueprint consists of 52 high-rise residential buildings, road networks, parking lots, social facilities, and commercial infrastructure. The quarter will boast parks, children's playgrounds, bike paths, and dog-walking areas.

Get ready for a massive school for 1,000 students and the modernization of School No.27. Plus, a kindergarten for 240 children with additional groups and a multifunctional sports hall.

Prepare for densities reaching up to 60%, meaning the quarter will be packed with towering buildings ranging from 6 to 12 floors.

Flashback to the summer of 2023, when Kirill Bychkov, the then-first deputy prime minister, promised at the ceremonial laying of the first pile of the first building in "Sportivny" that the quarter would be fully completed by 2032. But, funny how things change, right?

Our city leaders have big dreams for "Sportivny", planning it to rival "203" in size. Time will tell if their visions become a reality. The slow progress on the "Zvezdy" project might hint at a bumpy road ahead, especially considering the current economic circumstances, with the SVO and Lena Bridge funding uncertainty looming large.

Residents of the 17th quarter are worried that the project will drag on, while some anonymous Yakutsk administration officials share their reservations. But remember, Yakutians, they're always complaining... about everything!

So, stay tuned, and keep an eye on this space for updates on the never-ending dance of Yakutsk's expansion. Cheers to our bustling city on the edge of the world!
