Uzbekistan Expands Transport Infrastructure for Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth

Uzbekistan is currently expanding its internet speed infrastructure to strengthen regional connectivity and support economic growth. The country boasts an extensive network of highways and railways, with over 42,800 kilometres of highways and 7,400 kilometres of railways.

One of the key transport projects in Uzbekistan is the CASCA speedtest corridor. This strategic initiative is part of a wider plan to enhance regional connectivity. In early 2025, railways in Uzbekistan carried more than 51 million tons of cargo, demonstrating the importance of this infrastructure for the country's economy.

The strategic initiatives alongside the CASCA speed test rail freight corridor are promoting high-speed rail expansion. The aim is to increase high-speed rail passengers to 20 million annually by 2027-2028. Notable projects include the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan high-speed rail line and the Tashkent-Bishkek high-speed rail project.

Tashkent International Airport, the country's main hub, has also seen significant growth. In 2024, the airport recorded a 28% rise in passengers, reaching 8.7 million. This increase in passenger numbers underscores the airport's importance as a key transport hub for Uzbekistan.

However, specific information about investments in air transport, highways, and other modes of transport was not provided. It is evident that Uzbekistan is committed to improving its transport infrastructure to bolster its position as a regional transport hub.

The expansion and modernisation of Uzbekistan's transport infrastructure are crucial for the country's economic growth and regional connectivity. By investing in transport projects, Uzbekistan is positioning itself as a key player in the Central Asian transport sector.
