Eselswiese Bridge Strengthening Work Progresses Despite Unknown Contractor
Strengthening works on the 'Eselswiese' bridge on federal road B 429 are underway, with progress reported despite the unknown identity of the company carrying out the project.
The bridge, also known as 'Donkey's Way', is set to enter its third phase on October 2. This phase will focus on the west side bridge cap. Despite the ongoing work, two lanes per direction will remain open, though trucks will be banned from overtaking.
Truck traffic has been accommodated throughout the project, with one lane per direction available for use. The cycle and pedestrian path, closed since June, will reopen on October 2. The road resurfacing was completed before the bridge work began, ensuring a smooth surface for vehicles.
The bridge caps are being demolished and rebuilt using lightweight concrete. Upon completion, expected by winter 2025/2026, the bridge will once again support vehicles weighing up to 44 tons, lifting the current 3.5-ton restriction.
The strengthening works on the 'Eselswiese' bridge are proceeding as planned. Despite the unknown contractor, the project aims to improve the bridge's load-bearing capacity, benefiting both truck traffic and the local community. The bridge's reopening is expected by the end of 2025.
