Eric Clapton Nears Securing a Top Album Spot with One of His Most Recognized Works

Eric Clapton, widely regarded as a guitar legend, reigns supreme across various music genres. His prowess in pop, rock, and even blues has cemented his place in music history, with a near-constant presence on the charts, especially in the blues sphere.

In a recent turn of events, Clapton's 1977 classic, "Slowhand," re-enters the Billboard Blues Albums chart, claiming the second spot. The album, though previously a commercial success, never made it to the chart's top spot. It narrowly misses the No. 1 position, coming in just behind Etta James' "At Last!," which has held the position for two consecutive weeks.

With "Slowhand" almost claiming the top spot, Clapton isn't a stranger to chart-topping positions. He's amassed 11 No. 1s on the Blues Albums chart, reaching the top 10 with an impressive 14 out of 15 albums placed on the chart. The only album preventing him from another No. 1 is Etta James' "At Last!," which debuted at the top position last week.

"Slowhand," Clapton's fifth solo album, gained significant acclaim upon its release. The project, noteworthy even among his impressive catalog, is remembered as one of his finest works. Two of its singles, "Wonderful Tonight" and "Lay Down Sally," remain as some of his most iconic hits.

Despite not debuting on the Blues Albums chart until now, "Slowhand" has previously reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200. The album has been triple platinum-certified in the U.S. alone and has sold millions of copies worldwide.

Clapton last graced the Blues Albums chart with his latest studio effort, "Meanwhile," released in October 2024. The album debuted at No. 1 and held the position for two weeks before disappearing from the charts.

As of January 27, 2025, the top positions on the Blues Albums chart are dominated by artists like Bonnie Raitt, The Blues Brothers, and Keb' Mo.', with no mention of Eric Clapton in the top spots.[4] This information does not specify which album is currently keeping him from repeating his No. 1 victory.

Eric Clapton's "Slowhand" sales continue to surge, making it a top contender in the 'Eric Clapton top 10' list of best-selling albums. The re-emergence of "Slowhand" on the 'Eric Clapton slowhand charts' and the Billboard Blues Albums chart highlights its enduring popularity. Despite missing the No. 1 position by a narrow margin, "Slowhand" remains a testament to Clapton's consistent success, as evidenced by its repeated entry in the 'Eric Clapton charts'. The album's success is further underscored by its Billboard 200 placement, where it reached No. 2. With its triple platinum certification and millions of copies sold globally, "Slowhand" is undeniably a landmark in Clapton's rich discography, featuring iconic hits like "Wonderful Tonight" and "Lay Down Sally".
