Unlocking the Future: Thuringia's Investment in Science-Economy Synergy Boosts Tech Independence

Collaborating connections forged between economic and scientific sectors - Economic and scientific collaboration is fostered through shared land use

Thuringia is pushing forward by investing heavily in the alliance between economy and science, with an ambitious plan to allocate around 200 million euros by 2027, as announced by Economics Minister Colette Boos-John (CDU) in Erfurt. The funding will be sourced from EU funds and the state treasury, aimed at strengthening the connection between research and practical application, ensuring our continued lead in technology.

On this very Monday, a conference convened by the Thuringian Energy Network delves into the fascinating topic "Transformation Technologies," examining technological advancements in the utilization and storage of renewable energy. Minister Boos-John emphasizes a network and storage crusade in the energy sector, stressing that enhancing the electrical grid infrastructure is the backbone of every energy revolution.

Facing international risks and geopolitical shifts, the need for attention towards key advanced technologies of high economic significance in Germany becomes increasingly pressing. Thuringia recognizes the importance of bolstering its technological sovereignty to secure domestic economic value creation. To accomplish this, the ministry also plans to stimulate cooperation between the economy and scientific institutions.

Additionally, the state offers support for structural change in various economic sectors through a forthcoming medium-size fund and traditional state investment grants. Boos-John maintains her belief in the necessity to facilitate a more hospitable business environment for Germany as a whole, advocating for reducing bureaucracy, eliminating double structures, and expediting planning and approval procedures. For every new law and regulation introduced, she encourages the abolition of one.

Here are some key ways in which Thuringia's financial backing paves the way for technological independence and promotes innovation:

Nurturing Innovation

  • Investor Days Thüringen: These events foster collaboration between start-ups and investors, aiding in the development and execution of novel technologies and business models within the energy transition and digitalization sectors, which are vital for technological sovereignty.
  • eTeach Network Thuringia: While primarily concentrated on educational innovation, the eTeach Network supports digital integration and cross-disciplinary synergies among educators. This, in turn, bolsters the educational system's capacity to generate skilled professionals in technology and renewable energy.

International Collaboration

  • Scholarships and internships: The German-Ukrainian Educational Center's scholarships and internships for dual education in Thuringia encourage international cooperation and access to global knowledge and technologies within renewable energy and technology.
  • Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE): Engaging in programs like ACE fosters international collaboration and networking, ultimately enabling the exchange of cutting-edge technologies and strategies that can significantly bolster Germany's technological independence.

In essence, Thuringia's financial investment in the alliance between economy and science, coupled with international collaborations, plays a significant role in boosting Germany's technological independence and capabilities. Hence, we continue paving the way to the future, innovating and growing together to ensure our contributions for generating a more sustainable tomorrow.
