Diane Delano, famously known for portraying Officer Barbara Semanski in CBS' quirky series Northern Exposure, passed away at her Sherman Oaks, California residence on December 13, after a prolonged fight against cancer. She was 67 years old.
As per Stepfanie Kramer (Hunter), her dear friend, "Diane was bold, brash, and brought her sharp humor and impeccable comic timing to every role. Her raw and uproarious presence always commanded attention, making her truly one-of-a-kind."
Dennis Sevier, her agent, also verified the news, stating, "Whenever Diane entered a room, you knew she was there! She was full of life and loved acting. Her passion for her craft will be deeply missed."
Delano began her television journey in 1983, appearing as a nurse in the dramedy St. Elsewhere. After a six-episode recurring role on L.A. Law in 1987, she made guest appearances on shows like Growing Pains, Hunter, Falcon Crest, Who's the Boss?, Quantum Leap, and Coach. She then joined the cast of Northern Exposure in 1991. Following this, she starred as Bobbi Glass in the drama Popular for two seasons in 1999.
Post Popular, Delano appeared in numerous guest spots, including on comedies like The Wizards of Waverly Place and Mike & Molly, and had recurring roles on shows like ER, Joan of Arcadia, The Upshaws, and the daytime drama Days of Our Lives. She also appeared on the web series Fumbling Thru the Pieces from 2011 to 2013 and lent her voice to animated shows like Teen Titans and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
More recently, she featured in two films this year - the adventure Road to Dreamland and the bluegrass musical comedy Paradise: A Town of Sinners and Saints.
Despite her success in various television shows and films, Delano's role as Officer Barbara Semanski in the popular series Northern Exposure remains a fan favorite. Even in the world of daytime soaps, her portrayal in Days of Our Lives showcased her versatility as an actress.
