David Bridal, the well-known bridal wear company, could face liquidation if they aren't able to secure a buyer for the business.

In a recent development, American bridal retailer David's Bridal has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, led by CEO James Marcum. The filing comes amidst financial struggles, with high inventory and operating costs exacerbated by inflationary pressures significantly impacting the company's revenue.

If a buyer is not found, the company has announced plans for an orderly liquidation. In this scenario, assets separate from its operations will be liquidated, overseen by liquidation and restructuring firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.

Despite the filing, David's Bridal is actively seeking a buyer. The company has been reaching out to potential bidders since February, with several parties expressing interest in certain assets of David's Bridal.

The retailer is also evaluating its footprint as part of the restructuring process. This evaluation may lead to a smaller fleet of stores, even if the company continues in business under new ownership.

The dual-path process being pursued by David's Bridal is aimed at maximizing value for all stakeholders. If a buyer is found, the company will continue operations. However, if not, the liquidation will proceed.

It's important to note that without explicit data on David's Bridal's current Chapter 11 proceedings and interested parties, the exact potential buyers cannot be identified. Typically, in Chapter 11 cases, potential buyers include private equity firms, competitors in the bridal or fashion retail sector, and strategic investors interested in acquiring the brand, inventory, or operational assets.

David's Bridal currently operates 294 stores, including 278 in the U.S., 12 in Canada, 4 in the U.K., and 8 franchised stores in Mexico. The company is prepared to halt store closings to implement a transaction if necessary.

All of David's Bridal stores are leased, except for one store in New Jersey. The company is managing its inventory in case it's sold as a going concern.

The spiral of higher inventory and operating costs has been a significant challenge for David's Bridal. Inflationary pressures have contributed to these financial struggles.

David's Bridal's revenue has been impacted by these issues, but the company remains hopeful for a positive outcome in the restructuring process. The CEO has stated that the filing is a necessary step towards securing a sustainable future for the company.
