Customs Raid Uncovers Wage Violations and Substandard Worker Accommodations at Heilbronn Farm
Following a tip-off, customs officers raided a farm near Heilbronn, uncovering suspected wage violations and substandard worker accommodations. The Heilbronn city's occupational safety and building authorities are now involved.
The search was sparked by an audit by the Heilbronn Customs Office, which suspected withholding and misappropriation of wages, violations of minimum wage regulations, and exploitation of foreign workers. During the raid, eleven seasonal workers were interviewed, corroborating claims of unpaid work and inadequate living conditions.
Authorities found the accommodations lacked proper sanitary facilities, cooking options, and fire protection. Additionally, hourly wages were significantly below average, suggesting substantial minimum wage violations and underpaid social security contributions.
Further investigations are ongoing. The owner of the farm, who remains unnamed, is under scrutiny for wage disclosure issues, abuse, violations of minimum wages, and exploitation of foreign workers. The Heilbronn city's occupational safety and building authorities are working together to ensure the workers' rights and safety are protected.
