Customs Crackdown: Heating Oil 'Dieselization' Surge in Aachen
The Main Customs Office Aachen is uncovering a surge in vehicles running on heating oil, a practice known as 'heating oil dieselization'. This illegal activity not only damages engines but also increases emissions and evades energy tax.
Customs officers are discovering this trend by taking fuel samples and testing for the distinctive red dye that marks heating oil. In one instance, a vehicle owner attempted to deceive authorities by painting the diesel filter to mimic diesel colour. However, such efforts are futile as the dye is designed to be difficult to remove.
The Main Customs Office Aachen is finding numerous cases in its district, indicating a widespread issue. Owners who engage in this practice face severe consequences. Any previously paid energy tax for the heating oil is irrelevant, and they must pay the full tax for the entire tank capacity, regardless of the amount present. Moreover, this is considered tax evasion, punishable by up to five years in prison or a substantial fine.
The Main Customs Office Aachen is committed to clamping down on heating oil dieselization. Vehicle owners are urged to comply with the law to avoid severe penalties and potential engine damage.
