Court Orders GUP 'JHK' to Pay $105,000 for 2023 Ankudinka River Oil Spill

An oil spill into the Ankudinka River on April 25, 2023, has resulted in significant damages. The supreme court has ruled that GUP 'JHK of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)' must pay over 7.6 million rubles in compensation. The prosecutor's office has taken action against responsible individuals.

The spill occurred from boiler room No. 6's storage tanks at the Yakutia JHK branch in Middle Kolymsk. The supreme court's decision follows the identification of the guilty party and the calculation of damages. The prosecutor's office has opened administrative cases against the chief engineer and a duty officer for violations under parts 2 of Art. 8.6 and 4 of Art. 8.13 of the RF CoA. The guilty party has been fined 60,000 rubles in total.

Investigations revealed that the tank park had been operating without a bund for many years, allowing oil residue to seep into the river through the drains. This lack of containment led to the pollution of the Ankudinka River in the Middle Kolymsky District.

The supreme court's decision has come into force, ordering the recovery of damages due to oil product pollution of the Ankudinka River. The responsible company and individuals have been held accountable, with fines imposed and compensation ordered to be paid.
