Contractors are being discussed with over the $2 billion Trojena Dam Construction Project by Neom.

Neom, a Saudi-based company, is moving forward with the Trojena dams project, a key element of its vision for a unique desert ski and recreation destination. The project, which is currently in advanced stages of contractor negotiations, involves the construction of three dams to create a central artificial lake at the Trojena mountain resort.

The project, with an estimated cost of approximately $2 billion for the dams component and $4.7 billion for the overall reservoir megaproject, is being undertaken by a consortium of four companies: Al-Ayuni from Saudi Arabia, Limak from Turkey, PowerChina from Beijing, and WeBuild from Italy. These contractors are currently in discussions to outline the scope and commercial terms of the project.

The dams are critical to enabling the winter sports infrastructure for the 2029 Winter Asian Games, which will be held at Trojena. However, there have been concerns about whether the resort and dams will be ready on time due to slow progress and challenging climatic conditions. Neom, however, has expressed confidence that the Trojena desert ski resort will be completed in time for the Games.

The main Trojena dam will have a length of 475 meters and a height of 145 meters at its crest. It will use 2.7 Million cubic meters of roller compact concrete and will have a kidney-like shape, measuring 700 meters in length. The dam will be connected to the nearby Lake Village through an underground tunnel.

In October, Neom awarded a $1.2 billion infrastructure development contract at Trojena to two of the bidding consortium companies, Al-Ayuni Investments and Contracting and Turkish Limak Holding. The scope of the contract includes the construction of a freight depot, a tunnel, and excavation work at Trojena.

The dam within the planned lake will use 650,000 cubic meters of RCC, creating an island below the water level. One of the attraction sites that the dam landscape will offer once completed is The Enchanted Forests.

Neom engaged three companies on an early contractor involvement (ECI) basis for the Trojena dams project earlier this year. During the ECI negotiations, the contracted companies are expected to present methodologies and design proposals for the Trojena dams project.

Neom's Turkish partner, Limak Holding, has acquisition prospects for the Trojena dams. The negotiations aim to outline the commercial aspects of the Trojena dams project.
