Construction in the city center will likely result in prolonged periods of dusty air for several weeks as buildings are demolished

In the heart of Burlington, Ontario, the downtown core is witnessing a significant transformation. The demolition of a city block, bound by James Street, John Street, Brant Street, and a parking lot, is currently underway.

The demolition process, expected to continue for the next month, involves tearing down several wooden buildings, including a former jewellery shop on the left and Kelly's Bake Shop marking the southern boundary. The bake shop has taken part of their sign with them, planning to repurpose it at their new location further north on Brant Street.

Trucks laden with demolition rubble, including cinder blocks, wood, and piping, are a common sight on John Street as they transport the debris away from the site. Fencing has been installed along the Brant Street (west side) of the city block to ensure safety.

As the demolition progresses, the 17-story residential tower planned by Marz Homes looms in the background, set to be the second tower facing City Hall. The John Street (east side) of the property forms part of the boundary.

City Hall can be seen in the background during the demolition, serving as a stark reminder of the development that is to come. The demolition process is being carried out using back hoes, a common tool in such projects.

This development is a significant step towards modernising Burlington's downtown core and promises to bring a fresh, vibrant energy to the area. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting transformation.
